Oppose a 10-year delay in enacting air pollution regulations (Hat tip).

Contact: Send an email to all three MOCs.

Script: Dear [MOC], I am concerned about the Ozone Standards Implementation Act (S263 (Senate) / HR806 (House). I support protections enacted by the EPA and the Clean Air Act. The OSI Act would disable the clean air standards that make people safer. We need emission reductions and toxin mitigation from industry. (If you have family, friends with lung issues or allergies, mention this.) I’m counting on you to work to protect my family’s health and stop this bill. Your actions on this issue affect my vote at the polls. Thank you.

Oppose the ban against Muslims, despite SCOTUS ruling (hat tip).

Script: I’m a constituent from [ZIP], concerned about discrimination against Muslims immigrating to the US and the SCOTUS ruling. I am asking you for two things: 1. To extend the definition of family to include grandparents, fiancé/es, aunts, uncles, nephews, and nieces. 2. Betsy DeVos recently testified before the Senate Appropriations Committee on the Trump-DeVos plan for deep cuts to the education budget. After two hours of public testimony, the Secretary of Education made it clear that she supports defunding financial aid programs, and she doubled down on the plan to eliminate the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program.

Sign the petition telling lawmakers to reject the Trump-DeVos budget.

During the hearing, Senator Dick Durbin stated, “We have a student debt crisis in this country. I can find no relief for students in this budget.” DeVos, herself, admitted that student loans are of “grave concern,” but she supports eliminating the most generous programs that help struggling student loan borrowers most.

Betsy DeVos continues to turn her back on America’s students and student loan borrowers. The budget will make it harder for Americans to pay for college and afford their student loans by:

X  Eliminating Public Service Loan Forgiveness that helps students pursuing vital careers.
X  Cutting $3.9 Billion in funding from the Pell Grant reserve fund.
X  Eliminating Subsidized Loans that keep interest costs low.
X  Replacing Existing Repayment Plans, which people use to lower their monthly payments.

Make sure Congress hears your voice! Send a message to lawmakers today.

We are fighting back! Supporters have taken over 102,209 actions by messaging Congress, signing petitions and calling the offices of lawmakers. Americans from across the country are using their voice to stop the Trump-DeVos budget. Will you join us?

Thank you, for your continued support.

Fight For Birth Control Access Now!

President Trump is about to endanger access to birth control for millions of women. Two days ago, a plan leaked showing how Trump is preparing to allow any employer to seek a moral or religious exception from the Affordable Care Act’s birth control mandate.

What this means:

One third of women in the U.S. can’t afford to pay out-of-pocket for birth control. Thanks to the Affordable Care Act—women saved an estimated $1.4 billion in 2013 alone. Trump’s new rule would allow employers to deny coverage for free contraception by claiming a religious or moral objection. Not only does this rule violate reproductive rights and justice, it also violates the religious liberty of women who use contraception in keeping with their conscience and religious tradition. If implemented, this rule could impact millions of women who rely on free contraception each year to plan their families and their futures.

Right now the rule is with the White House Office of Management and Budget. While it is under review they are required to take a meeting or call with anyone who asks for it.

Take action now!

  1. Email to schedule a meeting or a call with the White House Office of Management and Budget. Make sure to tell them it’s about the Department of Health and Human Services’ regulation on Coverage of Preventive Services (#0938-ZB38).
  2. Call or email your Member of Congress and make your voice heard.

END THE ASSAULT ON CIVIL RIGHTS

Today’s Daily Action is to call your Senator  and tell them to end the Trump administration’s assault on civil rights in government agencies by calling hearings and holding agency heads accountable.

Even as he renews calls for a Travel Ban and harsher crackdowns on sanctuary cities, Trump and his goons are also trying to dismantle civil rights enforcement in the government itself. Whether it’s the environment, education, or LG...BTQ issues, the assault on civil rights from within federal bureaucracies is going largely unnoticed.

Tell your Senator to use the Senate’s oversight duty to challenge these agencies and protect our most vulnerable citizens.

FInd a MARCH FOR TRUTH near you.

In Colorado:
Grand Junction
Denver
Pueblo
Colorado Springs
Gunnison - 3:00PM, Corner of Main & Virginia

As questions mount regarding whether the White House has engaged in a cover-up and potentially obstruction of justice, the March for Truth is calling for elected leaders to fully investigate the Trump administration’s motives for interfering in the investigation of Russia’s involvement in the 2016 election and its ties to the administration.

Nonviolent demonstrations are planned nationwide to demand:

  • An independent commission must be established and Congressional investigations should be properly resourced and pursued free of partisan interests;
  • As much information should be made available to the public as possible, and as soon as possible;
  • Congress should require Donald Trump to release his tax returns to clarify his business interests and obligations to any foreign entity;
  • If crimes were committed or if collusion is discovered, it must be prosecuted.

“Women’s March organizers in states across the nation are working alongside local chapters of the March For Truth to make sure that June 3rd is a call for all Americans to come together as one and march to protect the very foundation of our democracy,” said Bob Bland of the Women’s March.

Other national partners include: Free Speech for People, Town Hall Project, The Opposition, and Progressive Democrats of America, in calling for a full and transparent investigation into how the Russians sought to interfere and undermine our democracy and electoral system. Stand up NOW for the Paris Climate Agreement!

Donald Trump is preparing to pull the United States out of the Paris Climate Agreement, according to multiple news reports.  Trump's decision means that the United States has lost its place as a global leader -- and not just on climate.  Every other large country on earth is keeping their Paris promise, or doubling-down.

Clean energy works. Renewables employ more people in this country than coal and oil combined, and 10 million people globally. And after the hottest year on record, when thousands of Americans lost their homes to flooding, we should only be going forward on climate action, not backwards.

Here’s what you can do to MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD:

1)  Send a message to Rex Tillerson

Script:
Dear Secretary Tillerson,
The Paris Agreement is the backbone of international action to tackle the greatest challenge facing our civilization: climate change.  Dropping out of the Paris Agreement would be immoral, economically counterproductive and politically foolish. The Paris Agreement isn't perfect, but it's a path forward.  Climate change affects the poor, communities of color, and Indigenous people first and worst. Mr. Tillerson, please stand up for action -- withdrawing from the Paris Agreement would be a crime against the future of our planet and against the world’s most vulnerable people.
Thank you,
YOUR NAME
ADDRESS

2)  Sign the 350.org petition which will be delivered to the White House and press TODAY.

3)  Call the White House to let Trump know that dropping out of the Paris Agreement is a historic mistake!
Switchboard: 202-456-1414

4)  Call Governor Hickenlooper - (303) 866-2885 - and ask him to stand with New York City and declare the state of Colorado’s commitment to the Paris Agreement, regardless of President Trump's decision.

5)  Sign Organizing For Action's Petition

6)  Sign Up to Host an OFF Fossil Fuels Action Event through the Food & Water Action Fund:  We are at a critical moment.  As the fossil fuel industry poisons the planet, the Trump administration is emboldening climate deniers and attacking our environment, our communities and our democracy.  Now, more than ever, we need to work locally and build a powerful movement to win from the ground up. This is a moment for us to come together and support each other's local events in order to build a network of communities fighting for a renewable future.

Ask Book Publishers to Stand Up for Free Speech and to Protect the Planet's Forests.

A logging giant is trying to take down Greenpeace by suing them for $300 million...because they were too effective in campaigning against them!  Canada’s biggest logging giant is dragging Greenpeace to court, demanding more than a quarter of a billion dollars.  If they win, it would give greedy corporations everywhere a green light to silence all of us who stand up to them. But now we have a way to stop them.

Loggers care about profits. And some of their biggest customers are book publishers, who have a history of standing up for free speech and have strong commitments to sustainability.  All the major publishers are gathering in days at a major industry event -- let’s overwhelm them with a massive call to take their business elsewhere unless the case is dropped.

Sign the Petition:  "To Penguin Random House, HarperCollins, Simon & Schuster, Hachette, and all other Resolute Forest Products clients:  As citizens from around the world, we are concerned to learn that Resolute Forest Products is supplying the paper that fills the pages of many of your books. As customers who applaud your commitment to sustainable solutions for our forests, we ask you to urge Resolute stop its attack on freedom of speech and be a champion for our forests.

When clients have spoken out before, Resolute listened. Let’s overwhelm major publishers before the biggest book conference of the year, asking them to tell Resolute to drop the lawsuit or risk losing some of their biggest customers.

Resolute Forest Products has logged some of Canada’s oldest, most majestic Boreal forests. And now, after a very successful campaign to demand a more sustainable way to do business, Resolute is accusing Greenpeace and Stand.earth of “conspiracy” for trying to stop the destruction -- and hurting their profits (Resolute's stock prices are plummeting)!

The case could change campaigning forever, giving corporations a way to silence groups like Greenpeace and Avaaz, while giving oil companies, loggers and miners free rein to destroy our beautiful planet, no questions asked.  Please protect the planet by protecting the voice of organizations dedicated to environmental preservation.

Comment period deadline Friday!
Tell Sec. Zinke not to roll back protection of Bears Ears National Monument

Action: Submit a letter to Interior Secretary Zinke, or call him at 202-208-7351 (Office of the Secretary) or 202-208-6291 (Office of the Deputy Secretary). Tell him to keep protections for Bears Ears National Monument.

Your public lands need you. The Department of the Interior is “reviewing” previous national monument designations with an eye toward eliminating or shrinking up to 26 monuments and Bears Ears in Utah is first on the chopping block. The comment period for Bears Ears ends on Friday, May 26th and it's up to you to ensure that some of the most spectacular and sacred lands in the west retain the protections they deserve.

The goals of the Trump administration and its anti-public lands allies are clear: shrinking monument boundaries, reducing protection and chipping away at the great tradition of preserving shared lands for all Americans to enjoy.

Bears Ears in particular, is an especially magical area; many tribes have millennia-old connections to the place. In addition to its deep cultural heritage, the area contains some of the most spectacular scenery in the American southwest. Bears Ears was protected under the Antiquities Act following a years-long public outreach process. Nullifying it sets a dangerous precedent that calls into question the sanctity of all federally protected public land. If we allow the current administration to eliminate or shrink national monuments, where will they set their sights next?

Please submit a comment today; the deadline for Bears Ears is Friday. You can sign a pre-written letter here. Or you can go here to submit a unique comment in your own words. A unique, individual comment carries the most weight – it's worth the extra time it takes. And if you really want to be a conservation hero, you can also leave a message for Interior Secretary Zinke, asking him to respect the tribes and protect Bears Ears. 202-208-7351 (Office of the Secretary) or 202-208-6291 (Office of the Deputy Secretary).

Thanks so much for all your help in this critical effort.

Thank you to Wilderness Workshop for this daily action.

100 MILLION plastic bottles are thrown away every day, choking our oceans in plastic waste. Governments meet in days to outline clean ocean

SAVE OUR OCEANS: 100 MILLION plastic bottles are thrown away every day, choking our oceans in plastic waste. Governments meet in days to outline clean ocean commitments. If a million of us call on top polluters to stop the flood of plastics, the Head of the UN's Environment Programme will announce our petition to the plenary and use our voices to help oceans breathe again.

sign now

Dear friends,

By 2050, our oceans will have more plastic trash than fish.

It’s shameful. Half of the plastic made we use just once and throw out, choking our seas and all the animals in it.

But in days, our governments can stem this tide when they meet at a historic summit to outline their clean ocean commitments. Public pressure just got #2 polluter Indonesia to commit to a 70% reduction in plastic waste! Now we need to go after the other top polluters.

If one million of us get behind a global call, the Head of the UN Environment Programme will announce our petition from the summit podium and work with us to push countries to ban single-use plastics and let oceans breathe again. Add your name:

Click to save our oceans!

No matter where we live, each breath we take connects us to our oceans. Most of our oxygen is generated by them. They regulate our climate and weather, turn water into clouds that give us rain. And oceans provide a home for near 80% of all living things on earth. We can’t live without our oceans.

But now, our oceans can’t live without us.

Humans have destroyed ocean health and we need to fix it. The good news is, more than half the plastic trash in our oceans come from just five nations. If we focus global attention on the biggest polluters now, we can create global system-change for plastic-free seas. What’s missing is the motivation -- and that’s where we come in.

Let’s build a massive call on our governments to stop suffocating our oceans. Once we reach a million signers, Avaaz will launch targeted campaigns on the top polluters to ramp up the pressure for them to act.

Our community has fought fiercely to protect magnificent rainforests and vast areas of our oceans. Now time is running out to kill plastic pollution before it kills us.
